(Bernadette)

Before there's a cure, there's caring and we are carers, caregivers, care partners and it's the most important job that we have in our lives.

I think it's important to understand that there's information out there to help you make that journey less stressful and then be able to take care of yourself and him at the same time.

Hi, I'm Bernadette, and my husband is John. He's had Parkinson's for over 20 years.

(Kristi)

And hi, I'm Kristi. I'm married to Jimmy, and he's had Parkinson's for about 15 years.

(Bernadette)

My husband is the most caring person I've probably ever met, and that's kind of why I fell in love with him. He is also an extreme optimist, which is also partially why I was so attracted to him, because I love positivity. I hate dwelling in like the sadness and the depression kind of stuff. But my husband is funny and he makes me laugh and he does this like deadpan dad jokes and stuff like that, and he thinks he's just as funny as I do. So we get a really good kick out of each other. So John, he's very entertaining for sure.

(Kristi)

So, Jimmy and I have known each other since we were teenagers. You know, we ran in a lot of the same circles, and actually I went to school with his younger sister. And so I've known Jimmy for a long, long time.

And I know his story is that I chased him, but that is not true, he's been chasing me since I was probably 14 or 15. He finally caught me about seven or eight years ago, so we reconnected later in life.

I think it's important to, you know, try to live as normal life as possible, you know, stay positive and be supportive. I'm supportive of Jimmy, and he supportive of me. I'm going to start crying too now.

You know, Jimmy does struggle with off periods and an off period for Jimmy is basically when his medications they wear off. So, he has you know a time period between doses where he may not be able to get up out of his chair.

[Jimmy Kristi's Husband Using INBRIJA since 2019]

[1 dose (2 capsules) per OFF period, no more than 5 doses per day]

[In a large clinical trial, INBRIJA started improving motor symptoms in as soon as 10 minutes. However, individual results may vary]

[Before using INBRIJA tell your healthcare provider about your medical conditions, including: - asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or any chronic lung disease]

[Before using INBRIJA tell your healthcare provider about your medical conditions, including: - daytime sleepiness, sleep disorders, sleepiness/drowsiness without warning, or use of medicine that increase sleepiness, including antidepressants or antipsychotics]

(Kristi VOICE OVER)

You know, he may have a little bit of a tremor, you know, so he really feels stuck. And one thing that's been nice is with INBRIJA, he's really been able to manage those unexpected off periods.

So, by taking INBRIJA, you know, it allows him to kind of bridge the time between when his Parkinson's medications wear off and when he's due for his next dose. So, it really gave us a lot more I don't want to say flexibility, but it's just it takes away some of the anxiety of being out in public and having an off period or an unexpected off period.

We like to go to concerts, and we would find ourselves leaving early because of an anticipated off period. Now we typically stay to the end of the concert, you know, because Jimmy will have his INBRIJA in his pocket… or I'll have it in my purse. And, you know, that way if he does have an unexpected off period, you know, he can pull it out and know that, you know, typically within about 10 minutes, it's going to help improve his symptoms. And the off period is not going to be a problem for him.

[John Bernadette's Husband Using INBRIJA since 2020]

[Before using INBRIJA, tell your healthcare provider about your medical conditions, including: - dizziness, nausea, sweating or fainting when standing up]

(Bernadette VOICE OVER)

And he’s just like, literally he's like, I can't get up and I have to help him get up. Or if he's not, he'll literally be sitting there at some time, at one point he was here at home by himself and he had gotten stuck and he tried to get up and he had ended up on the floor and he was there for like, I don't know, like 20 minutes or something like that.

I mean, that could be scary, you know?

(DESCRIPTION)

[Kristi and Bernadette are sitting and speaking with each other and the camera]

(Kristi)

Yes, absolutely.

(Bernadette)

So, knowing that they have something that he should be keeping really close by to him at all times is definitely helpful.

(Kristi)

Yeah, I think for myself and for Jimmy, the best thing about INBRIJA, really what it's done for us is it's, it's given us a little spontaneity back. I don't have to worry about Jimmy and his off periods because I know he has INBRIJA as a tool now to kind of bridge that gap between his off periods.

Why should he have to sit there and have an extra long, you know, off period, uncomfortable off period when he has INBRIJA now that can you know, that works quickly and can really, you know, make that time between medication doses more tolerable.

(Bernadette)

For people that work or are not home all the time as we are, although you will be having to not be able to be at home all the time. I mean, it's definitely a relief to know that they have something there. In case they are feeling, off, or they are stuck or that they have something.

Not everybody has the ability to be with their partner, the person with Parkinson's all time, especially a young, young onset. So, I think that that's really important to know that they have that available to them knowing that their medication timing.... It isn't time yet.

(Kristi)

Right, right. Right. And I think, you know, it also helps it helps me to know if I run to the grocery store or if I'm going to work for the day. You know, just knowing that Jimmy has INBRIJA available, that if he needs it, you know, it's there close by. And it takes a little bit of the anxiety away from me as well whenever I'm not there.

(Bernadette)

Yeah, you're right. You're right. It’s true.

(Bernadette)

Kristi, I am so glad you came today, because I think it's so important for care partners to be able to talk with each other and share ideas and learn from each other and be advocates for the person that they're caring for with Parkinson's.

(Kristi)

And I totally agree. You know, I think being an advocate and being positive and optimistic and trying to focus on that, on the good things. I think sometimes as caregivers of patients with Parkinson's, we get so caught up in the negativities and the struggles that we forget about. You know, there are positives. There are new therapies there, you know, exercise, stress relief, all the things that, you know, can help make this disease easier to manage.

(Bernadette)

There are things you can do to make your life easier. Yeah.
